Life-long creature maker.
Shanna Martin,
Traditional surrealist artist
Shanna grew up in a bustling animal foster house on an overgrown lakefront. Until age 18, Shanna lived among a constant rotation of domestic and wild creatures, soon to be adopted away or rehabilitated back into the wild. Her unceasing exposure to ailments, birth, death, and the many shapes of life left a lasting influence on her world view.
Shanna's artwork often depicts creatures and scenes from her imaginary inner world — an allegorical land of personified emotions, intuitions, and whims. Shanna often drafts out her visions repeatedly in a sketchbook before free-hand painting or drawing the final version on a larger scale. As a result, the final image often resonates in a way unique to the beholder.
Since graduating with a Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2014, Shanna has indulged in a number of international commercial projects, as well as eastern dance, collecting stringed instruments, and of course, letting her visions manifest at the easel. ✥
